Yunnan is the most common Chinese Red Tea. It is processed from Yunnan Da Ye cultivar, a large leaf variant of Yunnan Tea plant. The higher the percentage of gold top buds is, the higher the Tea is ranked; smokiness is not very much welcome – it means higher temperature was used for drying and that means faster production of Tea.

The colour of the infusion goes from orange-red to light brown, the Tea smells like prunes, the taste is full, massive and if prepared correctly not bitter at all, the aftertaste is strongly sweet, almost honey. Chinese Red Tea has a distinctive character and according to traditional Chinese medicine they overheat internal organs, that’s why they are ideal for winter season.
