An excellent grade of organically grown Gyokuro from the Kagoshima area made of the Yabukita cultivar. The tea is produced by our friend, Mr. Sakamoto, who has been growing and producing exceptional teas organically for many years. In total, he produces four grades of gyokuro, of which Sasa Hime takes the third, "bronze" place. This gyokuro has a fresh, delicious flavour with a subtle grassy accent. Excellent, fresh gyokuro at a great price!
"Kuradashi" The leaves of Japanese teas rich in amino acids are left by some producers to mature for a few months (sometimes up to two years) from the time they were harvested. The aging process breaks down certain compounds in the leaves, which cause a grassy and bitter mouthfeel when consumed. The taste of tea aged in this way is deliciously rounded and pleasantly sweet.
